Mynock leather

Mynock leather was a type of white leather that shared its name with[1] the parasitic creatures known as mynocks.[2] Marda Ro—the Evereni[1] founder of the pirate group who would eventually become the Nihil[3]—owned a pair of staves wrapped in white mynock leather that came into her possession[1] between 382 BBY and around 381 BBY.[4]

Around the latter year,[4] Ro drew one of them against the Twi'lek Fori Nagor on the planet Dantooine after Nagor followed[1] her[5] from a public house in the world's oldest settlement.[1] Later, at some point no earlier than 379 BBY,[6] Ro used the staves again during a friendly fight with the Evereni Vika Faer. Ro mentioned mynock leather while talking about her staves in a message she recorded for her descendants.[1] By 252 BBY,[7] during his youth, Ro's great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had listened to her journal, including the message where mynock leather was mentioned.[5]

Behind the scenes

Mynock leather appeared in a flashback in the short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," written by Tessa Gratton and published in the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project.[1]
