- "Mott calves are frequently hungry and spend more than half of their time eating. I estimate that young motts consume approximately thirty liters of milk each day."
- ―B8-T5
Motts were a species of non-sentient, horn-nosed herbivorous mammals found on the planet of Naboo. They fed off swamp vegetation.
Biology and appearance
Motts were a mammalian species[2] of stubby-legged quadrupeds that measured 1.10 meters at the shoulder. They had skin, sharp claws, small horns on their snouts. They had a high reproduction rate, with 15 young per litter.[4] They were herbivores that fed on swamp vegetation.[1]
Behavior
- "—sorry, master. I can't find a way to calm it. All I feel is it's rage. It want to get out. To crush. Gore. Kill."
- ―Anakin Skywalker

Despite being herbivores,[1] some motts could display aggressive behavior.[5] They used their horns for defense, mating disputes, and for rooting in the mud for food.[2]
History
Motts evolved on the planet of Naboo, in the Mid Rim region of the galaxy.[1] Their flesh was consumed by sentients.[2]
Motts in the galaxy
During a training session at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi once asked his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, to try and tame an angry mott with the Force.[5]
Behind the scenes
Motts first appeared in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. A mott can be seen during the swamp stampede sequence early in the movie, as well as the arrival at the Gungan Sacred Place later in the film. In both cases, it was realized as a computer generated creation.[6]
