Mongworst were a species[2] of vicious and deadly insects found on the Outer Rim planet Geonosis. They were bred for combat by the native Geonosians and made to participate in pit fights for the Geonosians' pleasure.[1] During the First Battle of Geonosis[3] in 22 BBY,[4] tiny, mutant mongworts were being kept in a secure holding pen carved into the rock beneath the Stalgasin hive's Petranaki Arena on Geonosis.[3] The Galactic Empire sterilized Geonosis around 9 BBY.[4]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, mongworst were first mentioned in the 2015 reference book Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know.[5] The creatures originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in the 2003 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, which was written by Simon Beecroft and Curtis Saxton.[6]
