In 4 ABY, the Freemakers went on a mission to the Wheel to retrieve an energy matrix activator in order to build the Arrowhead, a powerful warship which Rowan Freemaker hoped to use to defeat the Galactic Empire. Though their mission was complicated by the presence of Ranat gangsters, Graballa and his bounty hunters, and the Galactic Empire, the Freemakers managed to recover the matrix activator and escape the Wheel.

Prelude

After experiencing a Force vision imploring him to build a powerful starship called the Arrowhead that could turn the tide of the Galactic Civil War, Rowan Freemaker and his family embarked on a quest to collect the pieces needed to build the starship.[5]

Having obtained the proton suspension housing.[2] Rowan decided to obtain an energy matrix activator. While Quarrie believed that these devices were rare, Rowan's older brother Zander Freemaker pointed out that the Freemakers had one such device at their former home, Freemaker Salvage and Repair, on the Wheel.[1]

Meanwhile, Graballa the Hutt who was unable to find kyber crystals for the Galactic Empire decided to collect a bounty on Rowan's head in order to make money and to regain Darth Vader's favor.[1]

The mission

Infiltrating home

The Freemakers traveled to the Wheel aboard the StarScavenger. After landing in the Lower Ring, Kordi Freemaker came up with a plan of using the turbolift and ventilation shafts to reach their former home and garage. The B1-series battle droid Roger was tasked with hacking into the guidance system in order to guide them to their former garage.[1]

With the help of Roger, the Freemakers used a turbolift and the ventilation shafts to reach their former home. They soon discovered that one of their former customers Wick Cooper had taken it over and turned it into a cantina called "Wick Cooper's Caffeine and Kitsch Club." To avoid the risk of being discovered, the Freemakers decided to infiltrate Wick Cooper's cantina at night in order to obtain the energy matrix activator, which had been turned into a caf machine.[1]

Unexpected complications

However, the Freemakers' mission was complicated by an unexpected problem. Roger had incurred the wrath of a gang of Ranats, one of whom had attempted to steal his datapad. They attacked Roger, preventing him from helping the Freemakers enter their former garage. The Freemakers managed to get inside by posing as repair workers from "Midnight Cafeteria Services."[1]

Despite clearing one hurdle, the Freemakers were detected by their former Aqualish landlord Furlac, who informed Graballa, seeking a reward from the Hutt. Graballa soon arrived with his bounty hunters Dengar, Zuckuss, 4-LOM, Bossk, and IG-88 and captured the Freemakers. Graballa then contacted Lord Vader, informing them that he had captured Rowan and claiming that Rowan could help him to find kyber crystals.[1]

The Freemakers were locked in a containment field. Rowan attempted to play a mind trick on the bounty hunters but failed. However, Kordi managed to turn the droid hunters IG-88 and 4-LOM against their organic counterparts by claiming that the organics were being paid more than their droid counterparts. While the bounty hunters fought, the Freemakers managed to escape on a speeder bike.[1]

Escaping the Wheel

The Freemakers fled on their bike into the marketplace. Though they were pursued by the bounty hunters, they managed to lose them after two loops. Rowan then came up with an idea to infiltrate their former garage using stormtrooper armor stolen from a local Imperial depot. Disguised as stormtroopers, the Freemakers managed to infiltrate their former garage where they found a humiliated Graballa trying to explain his actions to Lord Vader.[1]

With Vader and Graballa preoccupied, the Freemakers managed to sneak the energy matrix activator and sneak out. However, their plans to escape down a lift were complicated when Vader entered the lift and took it up to the Upper Ring. Meanwhile, Roger managed to escape his Ranat tormentors by tripping them with motor oil. After regaining control of his datapad, he found that the Freemakers were on the Upper Ring with Lord Vader.[1]

Roger saved the Freemakers by activating a trapdoor which led back to the lower levels. After Lord Vader departed aboard his 'Executor-class Star Dreadnought Executor, the Freemakers departed the Wheel with the energy matrix activator.[1]

Aftermath

Returning to the Rebel Alliance, Kordi informed Admiral Ackbar of their successful mission to retrieve the energy matrix activator. The Freemakers then embarked on their next mission to obtain a large kyber crystal for the Arrowhead.[1]

Behind the scenes

The mission to obtain an energy matrix activator first appeared in the LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Season Two episode "Return to the Wheel," which premiered on August 3, 2017.
