- "Like so many of the people that we tell ourselves we're here to serve, Teckla lives in a district that rarely has electricity and running water as a result of the war. Her children can now only bathe every two weeks, and they have no light in which to read or study at night."
- ―Padmé Amidala, addressing the Republic Senate
A family that held the surname Minnau included the siblings Rehtul Minnau and Teckla Minnau, along with Teckla's half-sister Nandi.
History
A middle-class merchant family bearing the surname Minnau lived on the planet Naboo during the waning years of the Galactic Republic. The eldest of the family in one generation was the male Rehtul Minnau, who worked as a law clerk in Naboo's capital[1] Theed.[3] His younger sister was Teckla Minnau, and she had a half-sister named Nandi. The two sisters had a strong friendship in their carefree childhood and attended school in Theed, where they stayed in Rehtul's house.[1]
In 32 BBY, Naboo was invaded by the Trade Federation, who attacked Theed. During the early hours of the attack, Teckla and Nandi fled amidst chaotic street battles into the swamps of Naboo alongside members of the Royal Naboo Security Forces. They were separated, with Teckla evading the Trade Federation Droid Army until she found shelter for the remainder of the invasion in a marsh village. Teckla and Nandi reunited at the Freedom Day celebrations following the Naboo's victory against the Trade Federation.[1]
Both sisters completed their education and became servants in the employ of[1] the Naboo[3] Senator Padmé Amidala, staying on Naboo to help manage her family's Lake Country estate Varykino. A decade after the invasion,[1] in 22 BBY,[3] the pan-galactic Clone Wars erupted[1] between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[3] As a result, Teckla joined Amidala's staff at the Naboo Embassy on[1] the Republic capital Coruscant,[3] separating her from Nandi again.
Teckla had children of her own who lived with her on Coruscant in a poor district with limited electricity and running water. Amidala made a speech to the Galactic Senate referencing their struggles in an effort to block an increase in troop funding.[2] Teckla was later killed by the bounty hunter Embo on the planet Scipio[4] in 19.1 BBY.[5]
Behind the scenes
Teckla Minnau's family was first described in her Databank entry on StarWars.com, which was written by the Hyperspace member "ShadowCultist in 2008.[6] The entry stated that after Amidala's death in 19 BBY, Teckla returned to Naboo and married an aspiring writer.[1] However, the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "The Rise of Clovis" portrayed Teckla's death during the Clone Wars.[4] This article follows the events portrayed in the series.
