- "Like so many of the people that we tell ourselves we're here to serve, Teckla lives in a district that rarely has electricity and running water as a result of the war. Her children can now only bathe every two weeks, and they have no light in which to read or study at night."
- ―Padmé Amidala, addressing the Republic Senate
The Naboo human Teckla Minnau had a family. Minnau, whose homeworld was[1] the Mid Rim planet[4] Naboo, had multiple children who lived with her on[2] the Core Worlds planet[4] Coruscant during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, when Minnau was an aide to Senator Padmé Amidala of Naboo. Teckla's children lived in a district of Galactic City that had limited electricity and running water due to the war, which meant that they could only bathe fortnightly and had no light to study at nighttime. During a speech given to the Galactic Senate arguing against an increase in military spending[2] in 21 BBY,[5] Amidala described the struggles of Teckla's children.[2] Teckla was later killed by the bounty hunter Embo during a mission to the planet Scipio in 19 BBY.[6]
Behind the scenes
The character of Teckla Minnau first appeared in the 2002 prequel trilogy film Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones.[7] Her family was later referenced in "Pursuit of Peace,"[2] the eleventh episode of the third season of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which aired on December 3, 2010.[8] Minnau's surname was first used by actor Nathan Hamill as the surname of Rehtul, the Naboo extra he played[9] in the 1999 prequel Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[10] The surname was then used in 2008 in Teckla's entry in the original StarWars.com Databank, which was written by a user named ShadowCultist.[11] Hamill played another character in the 2017 sequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi,[12] who was identified as Saile Minnau by the reference book Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary, written by Pablo Hidalgo.[13] Hamill referred to Saile as the grandson of Rehtul.[14] Teckla's family was first identified as such in the 2021 reference book Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Character Encyclopedia - Join the Battle!, written by Jason Fry.[1]
