The midwife droid was a classification of medical droid available in the galaxy during the Clone Wars.[1] They were designed to safely deliver the infants of a multitude of species,[2] and ensure that the newborn was healthy and safe.[1] One such model was the Chroon-Tan B-Machine,[4] one of which was operating in the medical facility on the asteroid Polis Massa, where it delivered the twins of Senator Padmé Amidala, Luke and Leia. However, the mother lost the will to live and passed away immediately after their birth.[3]
