Methyl was a type of substance present on the Cularin system moon Ostfrei in the vicinity of a concealed pirate base that was active during the Clone Wars.[1]

Around 21 BBY,[2] a group of freelance agents were hired by the Tarasin senatorial aide Sa'arli to investigate reports of suspicious activity on Ostfrei. The freelancers tracked the location of the hidden pirate base by using a portable chemical scanner to follow a trail of ionized methyl and carbonyl ions that led to the facility.[1]

Behind the scenes

Methyl featured in the 2003 roleplaying module Who Goes Thaere?, which was written by Ronald A. Heintz and formed part of Year Three of RPGA's Living Force roleplaying campaign. In Who Goes Thaere?, the players roleplay as the freelance agents sent to Ostfrei and it is possible for them to locate the hidden pirate base on the moon by tracking a trail of methyl.[1]

  2. The Living Force Campaign Guide states that the Living Force campaign is set one year after the Invasion of Naboo, an event that is dated to 32 BBY by The New Essential Chronology. As the Living Force adventure Below the Belt: Philology moved the campaign forward ten years to the time of the Clone Wars, Who Goes Thaere? is therefore dated to circa 21 BBY.
