A chemical scanner was a type of scanner for detecting chemicals. During the Clone Wars, Sa'arli, a Tarasin aide to the Cularin system's senator Lavina Wren, had access to a YT-1300 light freighter equipped with a portable chemical scanner. The scanner had a range of 200 meters.[1]
Circa 21 BBY,[2] Sa'arli hired a group of freelance agents to investigate suspicious activity on the Cularin system moon Ostfrei and loaned them use of the YT-1300 and accompanying chemical sensor for the assignment. During their mission, the group deployed the scanner on the surface of Ostfrei to locate a hidden pirate base, by tracking a trail of carbonyl ions and ionized methyl that led to the facility.[1]
Behind the scenes
The chemical scanner appeared in the Living Force roleplaying adventure Who Goes Thaere?, written by Ronald A. Heintz and released in 2004. In the adventure the players roleplay as the freelance agents hired by Sa'arli to investigate Ostfrei and it is possible for Sa'arli to loan the players the use of the YT-1300 freighter equipped with a chemical scanner for the duration of the assignment. It is then also possible for the players to utilize the scanner to find the pirate base on Ostfrei.[1]

- ↑ The Living Force Campaign Guide states that the Living Force campaign is set one year after the Invasion of Naboo, an event that is dated to 32 BBY by The New Essential Chronology. As the Living Force adventure Below the Belt: Philology moved the campaign forward ten years to the time of the Clone Wars, Who Goes Thaere? is therefore dated to circa 21 BBY.
