Merritt Rineld was a male Count of Dubrillion who was active during the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the resurgent Sith Empire. He opposed the ruling king of Dubrillion, Actavarus III, and sought to reinstall the Drayen dynasty to the throne by marrying Risha Drayen.
Some time before the sacking of Dubrillion, he was assassinated by the King.[2]

The expansion states that the Outlander woke up five years after the events of the first chapter, placing Chapters II through VIII in 3631 BBY. Risha Drayen and Corso Riggs state that Rineld was murdered by agents of the King sometime after the Voidhound disappeared in 3636 BBY, and also state that the King was killed by Vaylin's bombardments, which occurred in 3630 BBY as part of the Knights of the Eternal Throne expansion.
