Meknek helmets were a type of space helmet used by itinerant meknek workers during the High Republic Era. White in color with a tinted visor, they had a pivoting actinic work lamp mounted on each side of the head and a reinforced breathing hose running out of the back. The hose led to a square unit worn on the wearer's back that included a vital gasses status display indicator on one side and a replaceable alga-scrubber convertor tube at the bottom. Fully enclosing the head, they could be worn with an EVA suit and attached to them by a pressure-retaining neck seal.[1]
In 132 BBY,[2] the mekneks Fillik and Verosha Aniseya wore meknek helmets while making repairs to a shield generator on the exterior of[3] the Trade Federation WD-2550 Whydah-class yield conveyer Fallon[1] while it was in space.[3]
Behind the scenes
Meknek helmets first appeared in "Lost / Found,"[3] the first episode of the live-action television series Star Wars: The Acolyte, which aired June 4, 2024 on Disney+.[4] The scenes on the Fallon were shot at Shinfield Studios,[5] England.[6] Concept art including the helmets titled "Repairs" was created by Adam Brockbank under supervision of production designer Kevin Jenkins.[7] The costumes including the helmets were designed by Jennifer Bryan and costume concepts drawn by Eleanor Barlow in 2022.[8] The helmets were first identified in the 2025 reference book Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Visual Guide, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo.[1]
