A magnetic bottle was a starship engine component.[1] The component fed hydrogen to fuel systems. It was vital for ion drives. Many magnetic bottles were shielded by Polydex-9 shielding compounds.[2] Failure of the magnetic bottle during flight could cause a large amount of damage to the starship.[1] Magnetic bottles were also used in welding and cutting tools, holding superheated gas used in the operation of the device.[3]
