- "It's locked. Why is it locked?"
"It's supposed to be."
"It hasn't been locked all year."
"We know. We fixed it."
"What?" - ―Pono and Jeen
Magla was a humanoid alien cyborg who worked as a console technician in the Galactic Empire's Imperial Senate. In 2 BBY, Magla and their colleague Jeen locked a usually open tech closet in the Broadcast Center of the Imperial Senate Building on the planet Coruscant in order to follow protocol.
The next day, the Senate security official Pono questioned Jeen and Magla about why the door was locked while he tried to shut off a live broadcast from the Galactic Senate Chamber, where Senior Senator Mon Mothma was giving a speech criticizing the Empire and the massacre it had carried out on the planet Ghorman. Jeen told Pono the sequence key for the door was in the Security Office, and so he stormed away as the two technicians shared a smile.
Biography
Just following protocol
- "We checked the protocol—"
"Open it!"
"You need the sequence key."
"So let's have it!"
"We took it up to the Security Office yesterday." - ―Jeen and Pono
Magla was an alien[2] who worked as a console technician in the Imperial Senate Building of the Galactic Empire's Imperial Senate on[1] the Imperial capital planet,[3] Coruscant.[1] In 2 BBY,[4] Magla and fellow console technician Jeen locked a door within[1] the Senate Broadcast Center that led to a tech closet where the power level[2] to cut live broadcasts from the Senate was located. The door had been unlocked all year, but according to protocol it should be locked, and so Magla and Jeen delivered the sequence key for the door to the Senate's Security Office.[1]
The following day, an early session of the Senate was called to discuss the Ghorman Massacre, a slaughter of Ghorman citizens on the planet Ghorman by the Empire that had also occured the previous day. Although most senators initially stuck to pro-Imperial talking points during the start of the session, which was being broadcast live, Senior Senator Mon Mothma was eventually ceeded the floor in the Galactic Senate Chamber, despite not being on the agenda, due to the support of a wide network of rebellious allies.[1]
Speeches and smiles
Mothma gave a speech decrying the massacre and criticizing the Empire and state of the Senate, causing the Imperial Security Bureau to issue orders to the Broadcast Center[1] security official[5] Pono to shut off the broadcast. Pono headed to the tech closet, but was surprised when the door failed to open after he input the code. Becoming increasingly stressed, he spoke with Magla and Jeen outside the door, demanding to know why the door was locked.[1]
Jeen explained that the two technicians had followed protocol when they locked it, directing him to the Security Office when he demanded the key. As Pono hurridly stormed away,[1] Magla and Jeen exchanged a smile.[5] Pono eventually gained entry to the closet and shut off the broadcast just after Mothma called Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine a monster.[1]

Equipment
Magla had a piece of cybernetic equipment on their head that wrapped around the back of their skull and extended up over each of their eyes. It produced an electronic whirring sound. In the Broadcast Center, the technician wore a blue jumpsuit over a gray shirt with a brown tool belt.[1]
