The MG7-A proton torpedo was a model of proton torpedo produced by Krupx Munitions and commonly used aboard T-65 X-wing starfighters during the Galactic Civil War.
Description
The MG7-A was a model of proton torpedo manufactured by Krupx Munitions. A small, conically shaped munition, the MG7-A was launched from launchers mounted on starships and starfighters. The torpedo was built around the proton-scattering energy warhead, which was covered with a number of energy envelope projectors. The projectors sheathed the projectile in a protective shield that prevented premature detonation from near-collisions with debris and weapons fire.[1]
A homing sensor tipped the warhead, allowing the torpedo to home in on its target. The guidance system had a margin of error of less than three meters, although if the torpedo lost its target it sometimes accidentally locked onto the nearest ship within range. An Ignition Charge sat under the homing sensor above the warhead. Below the warhead, a Propellant Cylinder provided thrust. The bottom of the weapon featured an arming stud and dataport, as well as magnetic clamps.[1] The torpedo had an optimum range of two hundred meters, and a maximum range of six hundred meters.[2]
History
Luke Skywalker fired two MG7-A proton torpedoes into the thermal exhaust port on the Death Star during the Battle of Yavin, resulting in the destruction of the battle station.
