A lily pad was a type of aquatic plant floating on bodies of water.[4] While some lily pads were closer to the size of regular plant leaves,[3] others could be giant sized.[7] In 228 BBY,[8] the anti-Nihil operative Cair San Tekka sat on a broad ruffled lily pad in the central water garden of the planet Rilias II, where he was preparing to broadcast a message recorded by Jedi Master Avar Kriss. While sitting on the lily pad, San Tekka pretended he could feel the Force connecting him to it.[4]
Behind the scenes
A lily pad as depicted in the Star Wars Legends continuity
In the current Star Wars canon, a lily pad first appeared in the 2015 novel Moving Target: A Princess Leia Adventure, written by Cecil Castellucci and Jason Fry.[5] It was first pictured in Leia and the Great Island Escape, a young readers adaption of the book, illustrated by Pilot Studio.[7] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, lily pads first appeared in the 1978 novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye, written by Alan Dean Foster.[9] They were first depicted in the third issue of the comic adaptation of the novel, written by Terry Austin[10] and published by Dark Horse Comics in 1996[11] In the real world, a lily pad is the leaf of the water lily plant.[12]

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic: Temptation of the Force takes place one year and six weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon and its events span a few months, it must be set in 228 BBY.
