"Let Us Prey: The Whiphid's Tale" is a short story from Tales from Jabba's Palace, which was published by Bantam Spectra December 1995. The story tells the tale of the Whiphid J'Quille. It was co-written by Marina Fitch and Mark Budz.

Plot summary

A Whiphid suitor to Lady Valarian, J'Quille - an assassin and spy within Jabba's Palace - is secretly on her payroll conspiring with Jabba's kitchen boy, Phlegmin, to slowly poison the gangster. However, J'Quille begins to be blackmailed, for someone knows about his plan and J'Quille has already been forced to pay 10,000 credits to keep them silent. With Lady Valarian's remote assistance, J'Quille discovers it was Phlegmin himself. But when the boy is killed by a mysterious murderer who is loose in the palace. J'Quille's poisoning gambit evaporates, and he contemplates a more explosive way of eliminating the Hutt.
