- "Step two: at my peace summit with Marchion Ro, I hurl one of my special latch-on thermal detonators at him!"
- ―Krix Kamerat explaining his assassination attempt, which involves the detonator
A latch-on thermal detonator was a type of custom thermal detonator that was utilized by the human former Nihil Krix Kamerat during the High Republic Era. In 228 BBY, Kamerat told members of the Supreme Coronet City Diplomat Protection that he wished to involve one such detonator in an assassination attempt on the Evereni Eye of the Nihil Marchion Ro, which was not favored by the members.
Kamerat continued with the attempted assassination and managed to hurl the bomb at Ro while onboard the starship Gaze Electric, but the device was intercepted by the She'ar bodyguard Arathab Fal. With the detonator clung to Fal's chest, the Tarnab quickly jumped on top of Kamerat with the explosion killing both.
Description
- "Yeah, he's definitely going to shoot you in the face before that happens."
- ―Fezzonk believing Kamerat will be killed after the latter explains the plan with the detonators
Latch-on thermal detonators were a special thermal detonator that was utilized by the human former Nihil Krix Kamerat.[1] Like standard thermal detonators,[2] they were capable of causing a[1] grenade-like[2] explosion that could decimate anything surrounding them. Different from other detonators, they were used as a sticky grenade and could attach themselves to an object before destroying it. The latch-on thermal detonators possessed a spherical design with gray plating and three-to-four red indicator lights.[1]
History
- "Hrnf?"
- ―Arathab Fal, after noticing the detonator on his chest
In 228 BBY,[3] during the High Republic Era, Kamerat included employing one such detonator in his assassination attempt on the Eye of the Nihil Marchion Ro. He explained to members of the Supreme Coronet City Diplomat Protection how he would throw the bomb at Ro, which would evidentially stick and explode not long after, killing the Evereni. One member of the protection team, the Dowutin Fezzonk, described the idea as horrible and claimed that Ro would shoot Kamerat before he hurled the detonator. Kamerat nevertheless continued with his assassination attempt.[1]
Arathab Fal blocks a latch-on thermal detonator aimed at Marchion Ro.
After being introduced to Ro on the Nihil starship Gaze Electric, Kamerat panicked after Ro observed how far he had fallen and ordered for him to be eliminated, which led the former Nihil to grab the detonator from his bag and toss the device at Ro. Arathab Fal, a Tarnab who served as one of Ro's She'ar bodyguards, saw the bomb and intercepted it with[1] his[4] own body. As Ro departed from the room, Fal realized what the thermal detonator was and swiftly leaped on top of a frightened Kamerat, with the explosion engulfing both individuals and killing them.[1]

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and depict the expansion of the Stormwall, the expansion must have taken place in the same year. Meanwhile, the events of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" include the Stormwall's expansion and also depict the start of Pikka Adren's pregnancy. A later story, "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Sparks Fly," states that Adren is eight months pregnant during its events, indicating that it is set eight months after "No Big Deal," and therefore one year, eight months, and two weeks after the fall of Starlight Beacon. "Sparks Fly" is set during the Battle of Eriadu, an event that begins in The High Republic Adventures Phase III - The Wedding Spectacular. As
Star Wars: The High Republic Chronological Reader's Guide on StarWars.com (article) (backup link) places The High Republic Adventures: Crash and Burn between the events of "No Big Deal" and The Wedding Spectacular, its events must also be set in 228 BBY.
