The Lapiz Cutter was the personal Sheathipede-class shuttle of Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray. He utilized the ship to land on conquered Naboo in 32 BBY, to flee from Republic forces during the First Battle of Geonosis in 22 BBY, to visit potential Rodian ally Senator Onaconda Farr on Rodia during the same year, and to flee Cato Neimoidia during a Republic attack in 19 BBY.

History

The Lapiz Cutter on Naboo — The *Lapiz Cutter* on Naboo

The Lapiz Cutter was Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray's personal Sheathipede-class shuttle. The cockpit of the shuttle had been removed and an integrated droid brain added to pilot the ship so cabin space could be increased. The Lapiz Cutter had powerful shields.^[2]

The viceroy used the shuttle to land on Naboo after it was invaded^[2] in 32 BBY^[3] and to leave the planet after the end of the battle that had taken place.^[4] He also used the shuttle to escape the clone trooper attack during the First Battle of Geonosis^[2] in 22 BBY.^[3]

Later that same year, the shuttle had been repainted in grey and blue, the colors of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Afterwards, Gunray used the craft to travel to Rodia, the ship being accompanied by two Vulture droids, after Senator Onaconda Farr had helped in the capture of Senator Padmé Amidala. The viceroy intended to oversee the execution of Senator Amidala, but she managed to escape during a battle with the help of Jar Jar Binks and a Kwazel Maw.^[5] Gunray wanted to escape, but the Kwazel Maw shoved the Lapiz Cutter into a lagoon.^[6] The vessel was later recovered, and Gunray again used it to escape from Cato Neimoidia at the conclusion of the Battle of Cato Neimoidia.^[1]

Behind the scenes

In the Revenge of the Sith video game, Gunray escaped Darth Vader in the Separatist control center on Mustafar and attempted to flee in Lapiz Cutter, which was destroyed by plunging into the lava river beneath after a short battle with former Jedi Anakin Skywalker.

LEGO made a set of the Lapiz Cutter called 8036 "Separatist Shuttle" released on June 28, 2009. A miniature version was included in 9509 Star Wars Advent Calendar, released August 2012.
