The thune was a large herbivorous creature with gray, wrinkled, and hard hides. Living in small herds on the grasslands of Dantooine, they were typically not aggressive; only when angered did they became dangerous opponents.

Thunes were the size of a small shuttle. From the center of the thune's face hung a huge, noselike appendage, while thin, full ears circled its head like a halo.

The thune could flap its ears—filled with thousands of blood vessels—in order to cool down. The cooled blood in the ears would flow through the rest of the body, lowering its overall temperature.
