Lamps were tools that were used throughout the galaxy to illuminate dark areas. Famous examples include setla lamps, halo lamps, glowlamps, and sonic lamps.
Inside Luke Skywalker's survival kit was a lamp that Yoda stole. R2-D2 struggled to retrieve the item, but Yoda hit R2-D2 with his cane repeatedly until Luke told R2 to let Yoda have the lamp.
