LX-4 proton mines were a model of proton mine produced by Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc. They were retrofitted versions of the explosive warheads that Merr-Sonn used in its LX-4 proton torpedos, which the company manufactured and supplied simultaneously during the reign of the Galactic Empire.[2]

The manifest for the Imperial All Terrain Armored Transport Hellhound Two listed it as carrying twenty-five LX-4 mines when it was deployed on the desert planet Jakku during the battle the Empire fought against the New Republic[1] there in 5 ABY.[3] The walker was destroyed during the battle, and the scavenger Rey later moved into its wreckage, discovering the manifest but never locating any of the mines or learning what became of its crew.[1] She[3] noted this on a blueprint of the walker that she included in her survival guide[1] by 34 ABY,[4] writing that she hoped the mines were not armed and buried somewhere around her home.[1]

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, LX-4 proton mines were first mentioned in Rey's Survival Guide, a 2015 replica journal written by Jason Fry.[1] The Japanese release of the book listed the manufacturer as Mensix rather than Merr-Sonn.[5] The mines originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in the Imperial Sourcebook, a 1989 supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game written by Greg Gorden and published by West End Games.[6]
