- "Send my guard squadron into battle. Two men, with me, now!"
- ―Director Krennic relays orders
A guard squadron of eight Imperial Intelligence death troopers served the Galactic Empire as the guard unit of Advanced Weapons Research Director Orson Callan Krennic.[1] They were all killed during the Battle of Scarif by Cassian Jeron Andor and Baze Malbus.
History
Abduction of Galen Erso
Krennic's guard squadron accompanied him aboard his Delta-class T-3c shuttle to the isolated planet Lah'mu to bring Dr. Galen Walton Erso back to Imperial space to complete Project Stardust. Six of the troopers walked with Krennic towards the Erso homestead and stood behind him as he confronted Erso. He then ordered four of them to search the house and continued talking with Erso, though his believed-dead wife Lyra suddenly arrived and drew her blaster; the two remaining troopers trained their blasters on the couple. After a tense exchange, Krennic gave the order to kill Lyra, but was wounded by her in the process. He then sent the squadron to find Galen and Lyra's child Jyn, but they were unable to locate her and returned to Krennic's shuttle with Galen in tow.
Execution on Eadu
In 1 BBY,[3] the squadron joined Krennic on his visit to the Eadu Energy Conversion Laboratory, where they formed a firing line in front of Galen Erso's Kyber research team, in an effort to bait out the team's suspected traitor. Erso revealed himself as the traitor in order to save his engineers, but Krennic punished him by ordering his squadron to execute them anyway. When a squadron of Rebel Alliance starfighters raided the base, the troopers surrounded Krennic and later dragged him onto his shuttle when the landing platform was bombed, departing from Eadu.
Battle of Scarif
Shortly thereafter, Krennic's guard would travel to the Imperial Center of Military Research on Scarif to search through Erso's history of transmissions. When Rebel troops infiltrated the planet and set off numerous explosions that drew the garrison out, Krennic's squadron remained in the Citadel Tower at his side.

When an officer informed Krennic that the data vault had been infiltrated, he ordered six members of his squadron to be sent into the battle on the beaches, while the remaining two accompanied him to the vault. The troopers travelled aboard a TIE/rp Reaper attack lander and landed on a beach just outside one of the bunker entrances, right behind the Rebel unit Rogue One. The squadron quickly gunned down most of the Rebels running in the open, pinning Chirrut Îmwe, Baze Malbus, Ruescott Melshi, and Taidu Sefla behind the bunker door's narrow embrasures. Raining heavy fire on the four survivors, the troopers killed Sefla when he made a run for a nearby master switch that would allow for off-world communications, while Melshi eventually died from a previous blaster wound. Îmwe began to walk towards the switch directly through the troopers' line of fire, but miraculously none of them were able to land a shot on him, which allowed him to activate the switch and give the rest of Rogue One a chance to get the Death Star plans transmitted to the orbiting Rebel fleet. One trooper shot at the switch's generator which exploded, hurling Îmwe across the beach and soon killing him from the injuries he sustained.
Malbus, saddened by the loss of his friend, bravely marched towards Krennic's squadron, killing them all one-by-one with his MWC-35c "Staccato Lightning" repeating cannon, though they managed to land two shots on him and wound him. The final surviving trooper rushed over a mound with an armed C-25 fragmentation grenade and was shot by Malbus, though the grenade rolled towards him and killed him in the explosion.
In the Citadel Tower, the two remaining troopers with Krennic reached the data vault through a doorway, finding Rebel soldiers Cassian Jeron Andor and Jyn Erso climbing the vault tower with the Death star plans in-hand. Krennic and the troopers fired on them from their vantage point, though Andor managed to kill both of them, sending one plummeting down the tower's depths. The squadron was officially dissolved with all members killed on Scarif.
