"There were about five or six ships that came in all at once. We thought that was unusual, but they didn't look like Nihil vessels, so Kohta and I were not overly alarmed."
"Kohta?"
"Jedi Knight Kohta Jarik. The Vector you saw in the forest was hers. She fought valiantly."
―Jorinda Boffrey and Vernestra Rwoh[2]

Kohta Jarik was a Jedi Knight of the Jedi Order stationed at the outpost Port Haileap on the Outer Rim planet Haileap during the High Republic Era. After several ships arrived at the outpost in 230 BBY, Jarik and Jedi Master Jorinda Boffrey were not initially alarmed, though the Nihil pirate vessels then attacked the outpost. During the battle, Jarik piloted a Jedi Vector but was killed, and her Vector crashed into a marblewood forest. When Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh visited Port Haileap shortly afterward, she spoke with Boffrey about the attack and Jarik's participation.

Biography

"Whoa. Does that look like a Nihil ship?"
"It looks like a Vector."
―Imri Cantaros and Vernestra Rwoh upon seeing Jarik's crashed Vector[2]

Kohta Jarik was a Jedi Knight of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era.[2] In 230 BBY,[1] she was stationed at the outpost Port Haileap on[2] the Outer Rim[3] planet Haileap alongside the Delphidian Jedi Master Jorinda Boffrey. When several ships arrived at the outpost at once, the two Jedi considered it unusual, but because they did not look like those associated with the Nihil pirates, Jarik and Boffrey were not concerned. The ships—which were actually Nihil vessels—then attacked the outpost. In defense of Port Haileap, the Jedi Knight piloted a Jedi Vector but was ultimately outnumbered by the Nihil forces and was killed. Jarik was one of the few casualties suffered, and her Vector crashed into a marblewood forest a few kilometers from the outpost.[2]

Boffrey subsequently alerted the Galactic Republic space station Starlight Beacon of the attack, and the Mirialan Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh and her Padawan, Imri Cantaros, were sent in response. As the two arrived at Port Haileap, Cantaros noticed Jarik's crashed Vector in the forest, and Rwoh wondered how the Nihil would have been able to take out a Jedi ship. Not long after, Boffrey recounted to Rwoh how she and Jarik had not been alarmed by the presence of the ships because they did not look like the pirates' vessels. After Rwoh inquired who the latter Jedi was, Boffrey informed her of Kohta's full name and rank, indicating that her colleague had fought well but ultimately had crashed her ship—which Rwoh and her Padawan had seen upon arrival to the outpost—in a marblewood forest.[2]

Rwoh and Cantaros then learned that their friend Avon Starros had been kidnapped by the Nihil during the attack and suggested they find out whether the pirates had carried out other strikes to better locate Starros. Boffrey nodded her approval and expressed her wish to help to two Jedi but felt she was needed to assist with the outpost's cleanup and tending of the dead. Cantaros noticed the Master's voice crack when she had mentioned tending to the dead and mentally recalled that Boffrey had lost Jarik during the attack and that she was hurting because of her loss.[2]

Personality and traits

According to Boffrey, she and Jarik were not concerned by the arrival of multiple ships to Port Haileap at once, though they thought it was out of the ordinary. After her death, Boffrey noted to Rwoh that Jarik had fought gallantly against the Nihil.[2]

Skills and abilities

Kohta Jarik was trained to wield the Force and was able to pilot a Jedi Vector.[2]

Behind the scenes

Kohta Jarik was first mentioned in the 2022 junior novel The High Republic: Mission to Disaster, written by Justina Ireland and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[2] Phase I.[4]
