Dobbu Scay briefly speaking in Khamarese and then belching

Khamarese was a language spoken by[1] the Khamarill[3] Dobbu Scay.[2] In 34 ABY,[4] Scay was gambling at[5] the Canto Casino and Racetrack on the Outer Rim Territories planet Cantonica.[6] After briefly observing the casino's spherical, hovering[2] lugjack[5] slot machines,[2] the inebriated gambler[5] noticed on the casino's floor the ball-like Resistance astromech droid BB-8. Mistaking him for a slot machine, Scay inserted a cantocoin in one of the droid's[2] diagnostic slots.[7] In response, BB-8 merely emitted a soft moan, after which the irritated alien vocalized an utterance[2] in Khamarese[1] and briefly knocked on the droid's body. The gambler went on to lean against the droid and belch. Scay subsequently inserted another coin into BB-8, with the droid eventually amassing a substantial amount of coins in his interior.[2]

Behind the scenes

Khamarese was first depicted, albeit unidentified, in the 2017 sequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, in which it was spoken by the character Dobbu Scay that was portrayed by Mark Hamill.[2] The language was then named by the November 14, 2019 video "Every Language in Star Wars Movies," which was part of the Star Wars By the Numbers series created by StarWarsKids.com.[1]
