Kem Monnon was a major in the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[1] During the two-year construction of Echo Base on the ice planet Hoth, engineers under Monnon's guidance cut many of the corridors, including those at the base's southern end. Prior to the Battle of Hoth, Monnon recommended that Chase Wilsorr be removed from duty clearing tunnels after his subpar efforts.[2]

Kem Monnon was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations.[2] The character originated in the Star Wars Legends reference book The Illustrated Star Wars Universe, written by Kevin J. Anderson and published in 1995.[4]
