Biography

"Pay up, kid. That's 1,500 creds you owe me."
"Well, I don't have that much on me, but if I could contact my parents…"

The of[1] New Republic pilot[2] Kazuda Xiono was a female member of the Xiono family.[1] They and Xiono's father, the senator of the New Republic Hamato Xiono, raised their son[3]—who was born in 14 ABY[4]—as part of a wealthy family, living in the upper echelons[3] of the New Republic capital planet[5] Hosnian Prime's aristocracy.[3] In 34 ABY,[6] while Kazuda was operating as a Resistance spy on the supertanker fuel depot known as the Colossus, he accidentally threw a holodart into gorgmonger Bolza Grool, which in turn prompted the Aleena Grevel to hassle the spy for 1,500 credits, claiming he had lost the game. Kazuda responded that he did not have enough on him but could ask his parents for money.[2]

When the First Order destroyed Hosnian Prime[7] that same year,[8] Kazuda's mother and Hamato, along with the rest of the family, survived, as they had been off-world during the attack. Kazuda's parents then began attempting to contact their son over the course of several days.[1] However, Kazuda believed his family to be dead because of the cataclysm.[9] When Hamato finally made contact, he informed Kazuda via hologram that they had survived. He then warned his son that he had put the whole family in danger, for the First Order had identified him and could send bounty hunters.[1] Despite the threat to himself and his family, Kazuda resolved to continue serving the Resistance.[3]

Behind the scenes

"…we would have met his mother. We would have met his older sister. Essentially it would have been those characters that we would have met and we would have seen all of them are now sort of affiliated with the First Order out of sheer need to survive."

The mother of Kazuda Xiono was first indirectly implied to exist in "The Recruit,"[2] the first episode of first season of the animated television series Star Wars Resistance, which first premiered on October 7, 2018.[11] They were first explicitly mentioned in "A Quick Salvage Run,"[1] the second episode of Resistance's second season, which premiered on October 13, 2019.[11]

Early pitches about a potential third season for Star Wars Resistance by the show's executive producers Brandon Auman and Justin Ridge were discussed with Lucasfilm. In an interview, Auman reflected that one proposed plotline included meeting Kazuda's family again, including Hamato, the mother, and Kazuda's older sister. The executive producer further elaborated that Hamato would have tried to have his son betray the Resistance for the First Order in an effort to keep him safe. However, Auman noted that Kazuda would have refused the offer, putting him at odds with the rest of his family—which included his mother—who were all affiliated with the First Order by that point to survive. However, ultimately, the production ceased after its second season.[10]
