Kay's belt was a belt worn by the human thief Kay Vess[1] in 3 ABY.[2] The well worn belt was made with brown leather and connected in the front by a brass buckle.[3] On the right side it had a holster that could carry a blaster pistol, and the front had holders for blaster modules. The back of the belt had holders for bacta vials.[1] That year,[2] the Vess wore the belt while stealing a forged identicard from the local Sixth Kin criminal organization and later during a failed heist of the local Westhill Palace.[1]
Behind the scenes
Kay's belt first appeared in the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The belt was first pictured in the game's "World Premiere Trailer" which was released in 2023.[4] Concept art for the belt was done by the Concept Artist Kamil Haddad under Lead Concept Artist Marthe Jonkers and Art Director Benedikt Podlesnigg. The belt's model was made by Jakub Mrówczyński.[5]
Kay’s belt was one of the key elements to Kay's design, both in terms of visual flavor and gameplay functionality. The team added a slight glow to the bacta vials so players could physically see how many were left to use. The elements attached to the belt were designed to loosly hand inorder to allow secondary movement during Kay's animations. The pouch attached to the back of the belt allowed the player to store quest or other items. During the game's development, the belt's buckle went through many iterations in order to create one that looked and felt consistent with something Kay would wear.[6]
