Kathracite crystals were a type of crystal capable of being utilized in the construction of lightsabers. Alongside the danite crystals, the Jedi Order typically used kathracite crystals in training lightsabers during the tutelage of their Jedi Initiates. As a result of the crystal's presence within the lightsaber, the weapon was rendered non-lethal as well as generated minimal power.[1]
Behind the scenes
Kathracite crystals were first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 supplement to Fantasy Flight Games' series of Star Wars Roleplaying products.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, kathracite was introduced in Tales of the Jedi Companion, a 1996 sourcebook authored by George R. Strayton for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games.[2] It later made its first appearance in Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Hutt Cartel, a 2013 expansion for the 2011 massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars: The Old Republic developed by BioWare.[3]
