Kai's first lightsaber,[4] also known as Kai's lightsaber was a training lightsaber that was wielded by Jedi Initiate Kai Brightstar during the High Republic Era.[1] The saber was a generic brass cylinder design issued for younglings.[4]
Around 233 BBY,[5] Brightstar was sent on a mission by Jedi Master Yoda, his lightsaber was stolen by the pirate Taborr Val Dorn. Kai then replaced it with another lightsaber gifted by Yoda.[2]
Kai would see this lightsaber again on the planet Vuundalla inside a locker in Cyrus Vuundir's workshop where he learnt of Prince Cyrus' secret identity as Taborr. Kai would take the lightsaber back before later confronting Cyrus about both the possession of the lightsaber and his secret identity. [6]
Behind the scenes
Kai's lightsaber first appeared in Young Jedi Adventures: Jedi Training, a children's book written by Caitlin Kennedy[7] and published May 2, 2023.[8] The lightsaber was first mentioned in a StarWars.com article, "Begin Your Younglings' Training with Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures Books – First Look,"[8] and first pictured in another article, "Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures Release Date and Cast Revealed,"[9] as well as an episode of This Week! in Star Wars.[10] Both articles and the episode of This Week! were posted on February 9, 2023.[8][9][10] It was later identified as "Brightstar's saber" in another article, "Meet the Young Jedi: Stars Jamaal Avery Jr. and Juliet Donenfeld on Making Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures," which was posted on May 19, 2023.[11]

The Season Two episodes "The Great Gomgourd Quest" and "The Missing Life Day Feast" take place one year after the Season One episodes "The Harvest Feast" and "Life Day," placing those episodes in 233 BBY. Season One begins around the same year, meaning that the first half of Young Jedi Adventures Season One, which includes "Yoda's Mission," takes place around 233 BBY.
