Jybbuk-fruit was a type of sweet-tasting fruit.[1] It could be used to make red-colored jybbuk slush, which was used as an ingredient in Spiced Jybbuk Juice, a beverage from the Mid Rim world Etai.[2]

In 4 ABY,[3] the former Imperial loyalty officer Sinjir Rath Velus consumed the alcoholic beverage sashin-leaf mead while visiting the cantina Pok's Place in the Outer Rim planet Akiva's capital city of Myrra. He felt the mead tasted like a mixture of jybbuk-fruit and oi-oi berries.[1] After a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[2] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[4] Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs included the recipe for Spiced Jybbuk Juice and a brief description of its ingredients in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[2] in 35 ABY.[4]

Behind the scenes

Jybbuk-fruit was first mentioned in Aftermath, a 2015 novel written by Chuck Wendig as the first installment in Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy.[1] In the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak, the out-of-universe recipe for Spiced Jybbuk Juice uses both strawberries and watermelon as its fruit components.[2]

  3. Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of Aftermath to 4 ABY.
  4. 4.0 4.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
