Jape was a Jedi Padawan who lived during the Republic Era and was apprenticed to a Jedi Master specializing in the astrophysics field by 41 BBY. That year, Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi—one of Jape's friends—thought about him while on a mission to the Outer Rim planet Lenahra, both envious of and missing his friend. By 40 BBY, Jape's Master began taking him traveling to see unique phenomena such as nebulae and black holes in the galaxy as part of his training.
Biography
Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of Jape's Padawan friends.
The Force-sensitive individual Jape served as a Jedi Padawan of the Jedi Order during the Republic Era and studied at the Jedi Temple on[2] the Core Worlds[3] planet Coruscant.[2] He was apprenticed to a Jedi Master who had expertise in the field of astrophysics[1] by 41 BBY.[4] Jape easily grasped the concepts of astrophysics and became passionate about learning his Master's scholarly field, forming a close bond with his teacher. One of the Jedi's friends—fellow Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi—often felt envious of him and his Master, comparing their affinity with each other to the rocky relationship he shared with his own Master, Qui-Gon Jinn.[2]
While on a mission to the Outer Rim planet Lenahra[2] in 41 BBY,[4] Kenobi began to regret embarking on the endeavor alone and missed the camaraderie shared with Jape and his other friends, acknowledging his fear of losing his closeness with his colleagues due to their assignment to separate Masters. Days after his arrival to the world, Kenobi reflected that Jape would likely enjoy studying the planet's asteroid field.[2] By 40 BBY,[5] Jape was taken by his Master to see unique phenomena such as nebulae and black holes in the galaxy as part of his training. When not traveling, he spent time in the Grand Orbital Observatory of Coruscant, a structure designed to observe astronomical occurrences. While in the Coruscant Jedi Temple[1] in 40 BBY,[5] Kenobi recalled the photos Jape had sent him of his travels, feeling those exploratory adventures were more interesting than his boring trips to the Temple's Jedi Archives.[1]
Personality and traits
As a Padawan, Jape had several friends among the Jedi. He shared a strong working relationship with his scholarly Master and enjoyed studying astrophysics under their tutelage. Though Kenobi envied the close bond shared by Jape and his Master, he often thought fondly of his friends and the camaraderie they shared.[2] After traveling to see unique phenomena in the galaxy, Jape took time to send photos of his adventures to his friends, including Kenobi.[1]
Powers and abilities
As a member of the Jedi Order, Jape was trained to wield the Force.[2]
