The Imperial Prison Transport (IPT) was a modified version of the Imperial Troop Transport to serve as a prisoner transport, ferrying prisoners to prisons such as Imperial factory facilities. The repurposed IPT stripped the comforts of the base transport model and added new restraints, with the prisoner passenger cabin located on the starboard side. The IPT additionally kept life support systems at the bare minimum, and the cockpit was physically separated from the prisoner hold. The ion sublight drives were supported by struts.[2]

In 5 BBY,[4] Cassian Jeron Andor was arrested on Niamos, and was led to an area outside of the Niamos Courthouse along with other prisoners where three IPTs were loading them to transport the prisoners to different locations. Andor was placed into an IPT which ferried him and a number of others to a facility on Narkina 5 part of the massive[1] Narkina 5 Imperial Prison Complex.[3]

Behind the scenes

The Imperial Prison Transport (IPT) first appeared in the Disney+ live-action television series, Star Wars: Andor's, first season, within the episode "Narkina 5".[3] The design of the IPT was confirmed to be based upon the Imperial Troop Transport (ITT),[5] which made its debut prior in the Disney+ live-action television series Star Wars: The Mandalorian.[6] The reference book Star Wars: Dawn of Rebellion: The Visual Guide, released on November 2, 2023 in the United Kingdom, codified this through establishing it to be a retrofitted version of the ITT, denoted as the 'Imperial Prison Transport'.[2]
