Reya Nell was an herbalist who specialized in salves.
Herbalists were individuals who worked with herbs and salves. The herbalist Reya Nell operated in Point Ueda, capital of the planet Ueda, during the High Republic Era and specialized in extracting salves from Ueda conifer pines and sap. These secret ingredients gave her an edge over the competition.[1] Around 32 BBY,[2] Jedi Master Mace Windu noticed what seemed to be skilled herbalists in the marketplace of Hillia, a village in the planet Metagos's New Xaxxis city, which was located in the subternanean Glass Abyss. The herbalists had learned to harness the exotic properties of the underground world.[3]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, an herbalsit first appeared when Reya Nell appeared in "Lost / Found,"[4] the first episode of the live-action television series Star Wars: The Acolyte, which aired on Disney+ on June 4, 2024.[5] However, Nell was not identified as an herbalist in the episode[4] and the term was first used when herbalists appeared in the novel Mace Windu: The Glass Abyss, which was written by Steven Barnes[3] and published on October 15, 2024.[6]
Nell was then identified as an herbalist in the 2025 reference book Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Visual Guide, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, an herbalist first appeared in the form of Shodu Warrick in the 1984 television film Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure[7]
