Hemei IV was a wealthy Core Worlds planet that was the origin point of the Cosmic Balance religion. The Bakur Mining Corporation also originated there, and its Cosmic Balance–practicing executive officers believed that the world's affluence was disruptive. To remedy that state, the Corporation eventually led the settlement of the Wild Space planet Bakura. By more than a century later, the Cosmic Balance had ceased to be practiced on Hemei IV.
Description
Hemei IV, also referred to simply as Hemei, was a terrestrial[3] planet that occupied the fourth orbital position[2] in the Hemei system, a part of the Southern Core portion of the Core Worlds.[1] Its ecology mirrored that of Bakura,[2] a lush world of forests, plains, mountains, and oceans located in Wild Space.[1]
History
Hemei IV's ecology was similar to that of its colony planet Bakura (pictured).
The exploratory mining consortium Bakur Mining Corporation[3] was at one point formed on Hemei IV.[2] The top[3] executive officers[2] of the corporation,[3] who were adherents of the local Cosmic Balance religion,[2] believed that Hemei IV's concentration of wealth was disruptive to their faith's concept of "Balance." Consequently, in an attempt to remedy the situation, Bakur Mining Corporation scouts searched along the edge of the known galaxy for a star system that could host a self-sufficient colony that could in time become a mirror image of Hemei IV.[3]
Eventually, Bakura was determined to be a fitting candidate world,[3] and in 149 BBY,[4] it was settled by a Bakur Mining Corporation colony ship[5] of Humans[3] led by Captain Deredith Arden.[5] Bakura's capital city, Salis D'aar eventually featured the site known as the Old Hemei Gardens,[3] with Bakuran historians tracing the colony's origins back to Hemei IV.[2] By the time of the Yuuzhan Vong War[3] of 25 ABY–29 ABY,[6] the Cosmic Balance had become extinct on Hemei IV.[3]
Inhabitants
Hemei IV was an affluent world inhabited by Humans that served as the base of operations for the Bakur Mining Corporation.[3] The Cosmic Balance religion emerged on the planet;[2] however, the faith eventually ceased to be practiced there.[3]
Behind the scenes
Hemei IV was first mentioned in Kathy Tyers and Eric S. Trautmann's 1996 The Truce at Bakura Sourcebook of West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[5] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed it in grid square M-12.[1]
