"Trapper, Ponds, Hawkeye, come with me."
―Mace Windu summons Hawkeye and two other clones for a mission[4]

Hawkeye was a clone trooper that served in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. During the Battle of Malastare in 21 BBY, Hawkeye joined Jedi General Mace Windu, Clone Commander Ponds, and fellow trooper Trapper on the planet Malastare, where they encountered the Zillo Beast. As the Republic soldiers tried to escape, Hawkeye was trampled to death by the creature.

Biography

Hawkeye[4] was created as a human clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett on the clone homeworld Kamino to serve in the Grand Army of the Republic.[1] In 21 BBY,[2] during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the two sides clashed during the Battle of Malastare on the planet Malastare. Hawkeye was among the many clone troopers who participated in the battle. Following the deployment of the Republic's new electro-proton bomb, the Confederacy's droid army was defeated. However, the bomb also caused a massive sinkhole to form, which destroyed multiple Republic vehicles and injured several troopers. Hawkeye followed Jedi General Mace Windu into the sinkhole to tend to the injured. After one of the injured clone pilots alerted them of a mysterious threat in the sinkhole, Windu called out for Hawkeye to join[4] him.[5] Hawkeye accompanied him as well as Clone Commander Ponds and fellow clone trooper Trapper to investigate.[4]

Walking through the debris, Hawkeye and the others stayed alert but did not notice anything amiss. Just as Ponds commented that there was nothing but debris and Windu frowned that he had a bad feeling, a Zillo Beast emerged from the debris, which the four had been unknowingly walking on top of. The massive Zillo roared as Hawkeye, Ponds, and Trapper began to fire on it. As the beast rose to its gargantuan height, Windu ordered the clones to run. As they fled,[4] Hawkeye[6] was trampled to death by the Zillo. The creature was later subdued by Republic RX-200 Falchion-class assault tanks.[4]

Personality and traits

A clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, Hawkeye was a human with tan skin who stood at 1.83 meters tall[1] and weighed eighty kilograms.[3]

Equipment

Hawkeye wore standard Phase I clone trooper armor that was white with no markings. Hawkeye was armed with a[4] standard-issue[5] DC-15A blaster carbine.[4] Like each clone trooper in the Grand Army, Hawkeye's brain had been implanted with a behavioral modification biochip by Kaminoan scientists at birth to ensure that they would comply with certain orders.[1]

Behind the scenes

Hawkeye first appeared in "The Zillo Beast,"[4] the eighteenth episode of the second season of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which premiered on April 9, 2010.[7] Like all clone troopers in the series, Hawkeye was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.[4] Upon being crushed by the Zillo, Hawkeye makes the distinctive Wilhelm scream sound.[8] The character's name is a reference to Benjamin "Hawkeye" Pierce from the television series M*A*S*H.[9]

  6. In "The Zillo Beast," it is unclear whether Hawkeye or Trapper was the trooper that was killed, as both wear identical white armor. Trapper later appeared in the episode "Landing at Point Rain," which takes place after "The Zillo Beast" according to the Chronological Episode Order on StarWars.com. Therefore, Hawkeye must have been the trooper killed by the Zillo Beast in "The Zillo Beast."
