- "No HK-class?"
"Assassin droids? I should think not." - ―Ahsoka Tano and Myn Weaver
The HK-model gladiator droid,[2] also known as a HK assassin unit, was a type of assassin[1] and gladiator droid. Hutt crime lord Grakkus Jahibakti Tingi maintained HK-models that had his medallion. They were later found disassembled in a crate during a raid conducted on a Razzi Syndicate warehouse by the Crimson Dawn organization. They were then reassembled to verify parts and presented to Crimson Dawn lieutenant Qi'ra as well as their leader Dryden Vos.[2] The HK-87 assassin droid was a type of HK unit.[5]
Behind the scenes
The HK-model gladiator droid was first mentioned in the 2018 book Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, which was authored by Daniel Wallace and published by Chronicle Books.[2] The HK-series assassin droid first appeared in the 2003 Star Wars Legends video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, developed by BioWare and published by LucasArts.[7] Though the Legends iterations primarily existed during the period of the Old Republic,[7][8] an association with that period has not yet been established in current continuity; however, the two primary known owners of HK-model gladiator droids are Grakkus the Hutt and Dryden Vos, both known collectors of antiquities with a focus on Jedi and Sith history[2] and the HK-87 models have been established to have been based on an "antiquated assassin droid" design, which may indicate such a historical connection.[9]
