- "You did not save those guerilla sympathisers—you doomed them."
- ―Darth Vader, to Beilert Valance
The Ewoks used guerrilla tactics against the technologically and numerically superior forces of the Galactic Empire.
Guerrilla warfare, also known as guerrilla tactics, was a type of warfare where a small group would use unconventional tactics when dealing with a large number of enemies.
Usage
Guerrilla warfare was type of warfare where a small group would use unconventional tactics when dealing with large enemy numbers.[2] During the Clone Wars, the Republic proceeded to aid and train various militia groups,[3] including the rebels on Onderon. During this event, Obi-Wan Kenobi agreed to help train the Onderon rebels in their fight against Sanjay Rash, but made clear that they would not fight their war for them.[2] The Confederacy of Independent Systems would also train anti-Republic fighters, such as an Outer Rim Territories insurrectionist cell. The Onderon rebels, including Saw Gerrera, trained by the Republic, would later come back to haunt its successor, the Galactic Empire, when they became members of the Partisans. The Partisans operated at Jedha City on Jedha until it was destroyed by the Death Star.[4][5]

In 18 BBY, the militias of the planet Salient II utilized guerrilla warfare against the Empire, although this ultimately failed.[6]
The death trooper squads also had knowledge of guerrilla tactics, due to their elite training on Scarif. The member DT-5537 demonstrated this knowledge during the Battle of Scarif.[7]
The Rebel Alliance used guerrilla tactics to combat the overwhelming numbers of the Galactic Empire.[8] Pathfinders utilized guerrilla combat as a means of infiltration.[9] The Ewoks used guerrilla warfare against the Empire during the Battle of Endor.[10]
Following the Battle of Crait, the Resistance were reduced to guerrilla fighters who, in spite of their situation, still opposed the First Order while seeking to restore justice and the New Republic.[11] Guerilla warriors were often referred to as terrorists by government and military forces against whom they fought. For example, the Separatist-backed king Sanjay Rash of Onderon declared that the Onderon rebels led by Lux Bonteri, Saw and Steela Gerrera were terrorists during the Clone Wars.[2] Furthermore, the Galactic Empire categorically considered the Partisans[12] and the Rebel Alliance to be terrorist organizations.[13]
