Grappling turrets were a type of turret that could be equipped on starships and were used to ensnare targets at long range. YV-865 Aurore-class freighters in use as slaving ships could be equipped with aft-mounted grappling turrets,[1] which could fire when the bay doors were opened. Afterward, victims would be reeled into the ship's cargo bay.[2] Shots fired at long range could be difficult to perform and the Aurores were often moving; as a result, they would often fly in closer to their targets to make the grappling turrets' shots easier to aim. However, this also rendered the starships more vulnerable.[1]

Grappling turrets were first mentioned in Friends Like These, a 2016 adventure supplement to Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying game written by Keith Ryan Kappel and Ryan K. Brooks.[2]
