Grand Dune

The Grand Dune located near Nefta, Tunisia, is the largest sand dune in the area. In Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope it served as the filming location for R2-D2 and C-3PO's landing in the Dune Sea. The film later returns to the site for a scene in which a few sandtroopers find the abandoned escape pod and traces of the fugitive droids. The latter sequence was extended in the Special Edition with shots from the Yuma desert.
