Gloomroot was a type of tuber that grew in the Shadowlands, the lowest levels of the forests on the planet Kashyyyk.[1] Gloomroot Hollow, an area of the forest floor on Kashyyyk, shared its name[2] with the vegetable. Shredded gloomroot was used to make Gloomroot Pancake, a brown-colored vegetarian side dish that the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs included a recipe for in his second cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook, which was published at some point after his first cookbook was released[1] in 34 ABY.[3]
Behind the scenes
Gloomroot was first mentioned in the 2021 Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for Gloomroot Pancakes uses peeled russet potatoes in place of gloomroot.[1]
