- "Khepi Expedition, day ten. On the surface, the Sayma Nebula is a standard Type 15A stellological phenomenon, similar to the Maelstrom Nebula or any larger formations in the Trax sector. But the mysteries beneath are unlike anything I've seen in all my years of surveying."
- ―A section of Gil Orum's journal
Gil Orum was a professor with the Imperial Science Academy during the reign of the Galactic Empire.[1] By 3 ABY,[2] Orum was involved in an expedition to the Khepi system in Wild Space in order to research the Sayma Nebula, a Type 15A stellological phenomenon which extended intro the system. By day ten of the expedition, Orum had employed locals at Hauler's Keep, a space station in the system, to rig up improvised magnetoshields for their starship which would allow it to penetrate the outer layers of the nebula. Within it, the expedition team encountered another ship drifting through space before it abruptly vanished. Orum later wrote in their journal that they would have questioned their sanity if the rest of the crew had not witnessed the same thing. A copy of the day ten entry of the professor's journal was later left on a datapad in a storage room in Hauler's Keep.[1]
In 3 ABY,[2] the thief Kay Vess found the datapad and read the professor's journal entry.[1]
