Ghor was a language which was spoken by the Ghormans on the planet with the same name. It had two writing systems, Ghorelle, or High Ghor, and Dixian, also known as Low Ghor.[2]

During an anti-Imperial protest, Ghormans sang in the language.[1]

Behind the scenes

Ghor was created for the second season of the Disney+ televison series Star Wars: Andor. The language was first revealed in the captions of Andor Season 2: A Special Look, a teaser for the show which released[1] on March 4, 2025.[5]

The Ghor language was created by dialect coach Marina Tyndall,[2] in collaboration with Andor creator Tony Gilroy and on-set dialect coaches Naomi Todd and Marion Déprez.[4] The language was based on the French language,[6] sharing over 85% of its phonology. According to Tyndall, there was no specific reason for choosing French as the main influence for the language, despite the thematic similarities between the Ghor and the historical French Resistance during World War II. French Producer David Meanti additionally made sure none of the Ghor vocabulary gave off innuendo.[4]
