A moon orbited the Mid Rim planet Genassa of the M'shinni sector. At one point, Genassa's sentient M'shinn species settled the moon. Subsequently, the M'shinni expanded beyond the Genassa system, which was in turn incorporated into several galactic states.
Description
A large moon orbited[3] the terrestrial[5] planet[6] Genassa.[3] It was situated in the Genassa system, a part of the M'shinni sector[1] in the New Territories portion of[2] the Mid Rim.[1]
History
The M'shinn species colonized Genassa's moon.
At some point, Genassa's plant-covered, sentient M'shinn species colonized the moon, subsequently going on to terraform the rest of the Genassa system's planets and,[3] at some point by 3966 BBY,[7] traveled to other star systems.[3]
Space surrounding the Genassa system was explored by the Galactic Republic between 3000 BBY and 1000 BBY, and along with the rest of its star system, Genassa's moon fell within the borders of the Republic by the time of the Clone Wars.[2] By 17 BBY, the system was incorporated into the territory of the Galactic Empire, and it was a part of the New Republic thirty years later.[4] The population of the Genassa system around 25 ABY numbered between one and ten billion, and two years later, it had been conquered by the extragalactic Yuuzhan Vong species as part of its invasion of the galaxy. The system remained under the invaders' control until 29 ABY.[2]
Behind the scenes
Genassa's moon was mentioned in the 1995 West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game sourcebook Galaxy Guide 12: Aliens — Enemies and Allies, in an entry authored by Lisa Smedman.[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry placed the Genassa system, and therefore the moon, in grid square M-7. In the book, a number of galactic maps depict Genassa between the Bright Jewel and Ottega systems on the Celanon Spur hyperspace route.[2] That placement was later repeated in several maps in other sources.[4][8][9][10][11][12]
A number of maps of the galaxy published in several Star Wars sources placed Genassa, and therefore its moon, on the Celanon Spur.
However, in a map of The Essential Atlas focusing on Genassa's galactic region, the Mid Rim, its star system is instead placed a relatively short distance off that segment of the Celanon Spur[2]—a placement that was also repeated in the StarWars.com Online Companion to the book[13] as well as in a smaller-scale map in Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart's 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare focusing on Genassa's galactic neighborhood. This article assumes that the placement originating from these latter, more specific maps is correct.[4]

- ↑ Galaxy Guide 12: Aliens — Enemies and Allies establishes that the Skrillings first travel off-world after the M'shinni had colonized their homeworld Agriworld-2079—which The Essential Atlas places in a star system other than the Genassa system. The Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide establishes that Jervo Thalien—whom Knights of the Old Republic 1 depicts as a Skrilling—was chairman of the off-world company Lhosan Industries by the time Taris became a member world of the Galactic Republic. Since The Essential Guide to Warfare dates the latter event to 3966 BBY, the M'shinni must have therefore acquired interstellar travel ability at some point by that date.
