- [GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars whirs and beep]
"I see her." - ―Yord Fandar uses GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars to spot Mae-ho Aniseya
GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars were a model of electrobinoculars made by Neuro-Saav Corp. During the High Republic Era, the Jedi Knight Yord Fandar used a pair of GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars on missions, including a mission to the planet Olega in 132 BBY. During the mission, the Padawan Od Keder used Fandar's binoculars to watch the stranger calling himself "Qimir" at the Olega Apothecary.
Fandar then used the binoculars to record a fight between Jedi Master Sol and the Sith assassin Mae-ho Aniseya outside the apothecary. This holographic footage was then shown to a tactical council of Jedi in the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant.
Description
GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars had a turquoise-tinted viewscreen.
GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars were a model of electrobinoculars manufactured by Neuro-Saav Corp. The device had a cuboid body with a large lens in silver housing protruding from its front and two smaller[1] red lights[2] mounted on either side of the main lens. A brown strap attached to each side of the binoculars' rear end for a user to hang around their neck.[1]
It was capable of recording holographic footage and had a viewscreen which showed whatever was being viewed with a turquoise tint. It could highlight specific individuals with a white square and zoom in on them. The center of the viewer was marked with a white cross and the viewing area had a white outline, with red Trade Federation Script characters above it at the center of the screen and white characters below it. When in use the electrobinoculars made whirring and beeping noises.[2]
History
Padawan loaner
- "Is this the only apothecary in town?"
"It is, but… that's not our regular guy. I don't know who that guy is." - ―Verosha Aniseya and Od Keder
Od Keder used Yord Fandar's GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars.
During the High Republic Era, the Jedi Knight Yord Fandar carried a pair of GG4 holorecording binoculars with him in a cloned leather carry case in order to gather intel during missions.[1] In 132 BBY,[3] he brought them with him on a mission to[2] the planet[1] Olega during which Jedi Master Torbin was murdered in the Olega Jedi temple by the Sith assassin Mae-ho Aniseya. While trying to track down Aniseya, Fandar and his allies began observing the Olega Apothecary in Olega City, which they suspected had supplied the bunta poison used to kill Torbin.[2]
Looking down on the apothecary from a nearby balcony, Fandar gave his GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars to the local Padawan[2] Od Keder,[1] who wore them around[2] his[1] neck and used them to survey the shop until a stranger entered the building. Keder then reported that the newcomer was not the apothecary's usual proprietor,[2] Catherio Para.[1] The Jedi then sent Mae-ho's twin sister, Verosha Aniseya, to try to interogate the stranger while disguised as Mae-ho.[2]
Night surveillance
- "Any sign of Mae?"
"Not yet." - ―Jecki Lon and Yord Fandar
Keper kept the binoculars on as the Jedi listened Aniseya's attempted deception from the balcony, with Fandar and his allies eventually confronting the stranger, who called himself "Qimir," and learning that Mae-ho would return to the apothecary that night. Fandar's colleague Jedi Master Sol then waited by the apothecary to confront Mae-ho alone while Fandar hid on the balcony with the electrobinoculars to observe. When Mae-ho arrived under the cover of night, Fandar was the first to spot her using the electrobinoculars and reported it to Sol and his Padawan Jecki Lon. Sol then confronted Mae-ho in the courtyard below Fandar and she attacked him.[2]
A Jedi tactical council viewed footage of Mae-ho Aniseya captured on a GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars.
The Jedi Knight recorded the fight using the electrobinoculars, capturing footage of the fighting techniques she used. Fandar eventually stopped recording in order to intervene in the fight and aid Sol.[2] The footage of Mae-ho fighting from Fandar's GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars was then played on a holoprojector in the Jedi Temple on[4] the planet[1] Coruscant for a[4] tactical council of Jedi Masters convened to discuss the assassin.[1]
Behind the scenes
GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars appeared in "Revenge / Justice,"[2] the second episode of the live-action Disney+ series Star Wars: The Acolyte, which aired on June 4, 2024.[5] The model was first identified in the 2025 reference book Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Visual Guide, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo.[1]
