Star Wars DVD releases (talk - history - links - logs)
Not the kind of article we should be having, to be honest. The information presented here should be on each of the respective pieces of media. This would be akin to having an article on "Star Wars TPB releases" or "Star Wars novel box sets" or something. Thefourdotelipsis 06:20, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

- The whole point of this site is to have information people are looking for, not a bunch of lists we put together by ourselves. Graestan(Talk) 19:50, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- The articles for each of the films should cover the DVD releases perfectly well. Havac 05:51, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Merge with respective movie articles and Delete. While I think Mauser is on the right track about making sure this information is tabulated somewhere, I think the articles for the movies themselves are the best places for that info, rather than on separate pages. jSarek 22:02, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

- Definitely keep. See below. Mauser 09:30, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- These pages are helpful, if properly categorized, arranged, and linked. -- Riffsyphon1024 10:07, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- This is a really good way to distinguish between each of the releases in one, organized place, especially things like the original DVD release of the OT and then the OT Limited Edition. Also especially because Lucas will probably get bored in five years, change something, and re-release the prequels. Wildyoda 19:49, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- Although I wonder if this shouldn't just be merged to a page titled Star Wars releases which covers VHS, DVD, and eventually BluRay. -- Riffsyphon1024 11:34, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- The consensus here seems to be moving toward delete. I still think this page is useful, although I'm wondering what the general feelings would be about the page Riff suggested. If you take out the crap like Star Wars: A Musical Journey, Star Wars: The Saga Edition Trivial Pursuit, and the other stuff that is only here because it's on DVD but not actually a canonical show or film, and added all formats of film releases in a table that showed the differences from one to the next, would anybody but Riff and me find that useful? - Keep and replace with Mauser's version. Now that I've seen what this article can be if cleaned up, I don't object to it nearly as badly. Ideally, it eventually would have other formats, as well, allowing us to move it to a more generic title, but what he has is a good start. jSarek 08:07, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

10:07, 3 January 2009 (UTC) - Mauser's version looks really awesome, just the sort of thing we should have here. Dr.Kermit(The Doctor is in) 16:21, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

- Keep, overwrite with Mauser's version, possibly expand to include a rundown of videotape versions of the films. This sort of thing is an overlooked possible advantage Wookieepedia can have over official references: The CSWE only contains IU information, the various documentaries and film-making books are mostly OOU, but we can cover both if we make the effort. —Silly Dan (talk) 20:45, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Comments
- Not only we should keep this article, we should split it to have a separate page for every separate DVD, just like we do with non-fiction books, soundtracks and so forth. Of course we don't need pages for the DVD's of Family Guy: Blue Harvest and Robot Chicken: Star Wars, but every important DVD should have its page, describing its content, bonus features and easter eggs. Mauser 09:30, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- By that reasoning, every paperback re-release of a given book should also have a separate article. Since a DVD is a re-release. The original is the theatrical release. But we don't have articles purely for those, we have them for the film itself. Thefourdotelipsis 21:23, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, but we do have articles for every TPB and Omnibus, which contains unique combination of material, even if it have been previously relased before. For like I said, the current sections of DVD's in film articles only loosely cover the additional content. For example: while Episode I and Episode III articles describe in detail both deleted scenes and DVD bonus features (excluding easter-eggs), the Episode II makes no mention of bonus features, deleted scenes and easter eggs whatsoever. Also while Original unaltered trilogy (DVD) describes the 2006 release of OT, only Episode IV article mentions the bonus features of 2004 release, while the other two focus on the changes only. All this information must be organized, and deleting this article will only make it harder. Mauser 08:50, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

- Additionally, if it's a about to be deleted in a few days, can I copy it to a subpage of my userpage? Mauser 16:02, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, you're allowed to have a subpage for just about any purpose related to the furthering of the wiki. jSarek 22:02, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well, this is how I think this page should look like. Mauser 15:41, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

- Same here, though I would shrink the main image at the top down to 300px. - JMAS Hey, it's me! 18:56, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. This version looks much better than what is being deleted. Would it still allow for eventual BluRay discs though? -- Riffsyphon1024 14:42, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, we already have a BlueRay release of The Clone Wars, but I didn't put it in there, because BlueRay is not DVD just like DVD is not VHS. Mauser 14:56, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- But rather wouldn't the best case be if all formats were covered in one article, that way we don't have to worry about additional TCs like this one? -- Riffsyphon1024 15:00, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- It could be, something like Star Wars video releases, but since I have no info about VHS releases whatsoever, I can't do that myself. Mauser 15:28, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- That is what a wiki is for. :) -- Riffsyphon1024 08:56, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
