Kevin Smith (talk - history - links - logs)

Please. I love Kevin Smith as much as the next man but he hasn't had anything to do with Star Wars. This article leaves us open to articles on other celebrity fans who've mentioned it in their work (eg Matt Groening, Seth MacFarlane). There's only one article that links to it and that should just link to Wikipedia instead. In short, delete. Green Tentacle (Talk) 12:46, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Delete per WP:NOT, Wookieepedia is not an all-inclusive trivia site. --School of Thrawn 101 12:57, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Delete --Imperialles 13:17, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
  • I just know this is going to be a fun discussion. My feeling is this: even my flavor of ultramegasuperhyperinclusionism includes only things connected directly to the SW universe itself or the creation thereof. Burl Ives, yes. Kevin Smith, no. In short: kill it. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 13:41, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
  • At best, merge the information into references to Star Wars in movies, but Delete this article itself. Does not pertain to the Star Wars universe in and of himself. Sorry, Kevin. Wildyoda 20:03, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
  • I'm tempted to agree, but on the other hand, he did host that Atom Films thing on the Sci-Fi Channel. Anybody else remember that? I know I have the promo on VHS someplace... Anyway, whether or not that counts is unclear to me at the moment. Gonk (Gonk!) 22:12, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
  • I was gonna vote merge until I read Gonk's comment. Therefore, I vote Keep, per Smith's hosting of the Star Wars fan film awards a few years ago on the sci-fi channel. Adamwankenobi 23:34, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
    • Ok, but we're talking about the article, as it is. I don't see anything in this article about Kevin Smith hosting awards for Star Wars fan films. Either way, I have not changed my position, as (imo) that is still not notable enough to deserve an entire article for what is, effectively, one sentence of SW-related action. It could easily be included in this article. --School of Thrawn 101 03:27, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
      • We have entire articles for other individuals who have only one sentence of SW-related action. (Don LaFontaine, for example.) The only way in which Smith differs is that, from a strictly canon perspective, his contribution is probably sliiiightly less "officially SW" than LaFontaine's. But it's probably still official enough, especially when you consider the "mitigating circumstance" of Smith's well-known SW fandom—he was interviewed in Empire of Dreams, wasn't he? Or maybe I'm thinking of some other SW documentary. Anyway, I guess I'm gonna vote Keep. Gonk (Gonk!) 13:59, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
        • There was a Star Wars documentary on Sky One a while ago, one of those where a bunch of minor celebrities with nothing better to do say how much they loved the film as a kid and used to have all the toys. Should all of them get articles too? Because they're just as connected to Star Wars as Kevin Smith. Green Tentacle (Talk) 14:05, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
        • Gonk, obviously those articles need to be looked at, as well. Just because we have other articles that are in a similar position as the Kevin Smith article does not mean that Kevin Smith should stay. I'm kind of an eventualist, myself when it comes to deletion, and it's my opinion that we'll get to them eventually, anyway. --School of Thrawn 101 17:43, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
          • GT, obviously not EVERY celebrity who was interviewed. And if that was Kevin's sole connection I'd vote Delete without a second thought. But he's got more going for him than that. Really the strongest (and right now, very likely only) thing is his hosting of that fan film award show, which the way I see it must be at least somewhat canon because the show had to have been licensed or otherwise approved by Lucasfilm. But I agree about not having articles for Groening, Macfarlane, et al. The key is to make it evident on Smith's page why he would have an article and they wouldn't (i.e., his canon relevance should be mentioned as early as possible in the intro, and anything else anyone wants to include would belong below that). Gonk (Gonk!) 12:57, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
            • Gonk, I really don't think that qualifies it for the kind of notability that demands a stand-alone article. The fact that Smith hosted the awards could easily be covered in the The Official Star Wars Fan Film Awards article. In fact, it may be a good idea to consider adding a "Hosts" section to that article, on the off chance that there are other mildly notable hosts that deserve a mention. --School of Thrawn 101 13:18, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
              • <obi-wan>That's your deletionism talking.</obi-wan> Gonk (Gonk!) 13:22, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Delete. I'm resigned to the fact that the majority wanted to keep the Burl Ives article at FA status. "But this... this!" (to quote Nomi Sunrider...) Not IU, not canon, not even SW-related. Evir Daal 07:21, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Undecided Well he did host the 2002 Fan Film Awards, but that's his only official Star Wars connection. —Xwing328(Talk) 18:21, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Undecided He also shows up in the Starwoids fan-film DVD. He pops up in a lot of fan forums as a kind of unofficial indie spokesman. Enochf 18:27, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Delete. It's my opinion that non-canon SW items should need only one article, just as we do with fanfilms. Smith would be included in the fanfilm awards article. Scott Chitwood and Joshua Griffin should be merged with Theforce.net. Any other webmasters, fanfilm directors, or other unofficial figures would be merged with the main article for their work as well. It's the smartest way to do it. Havac 02:42, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
  • I'd like to see him contribute to one of the ongoing comic series. I'd buy it. Until then, I guess delete. Maybe we should find someone with all of the View Askew DVDs and a lot of free time to start a wiki on his work. —Silly Dan (talk) 01:28, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Hosting the Fan Film Awards is enough for me. Keep. -- Ozzel 21:37, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Hosted. Fan. Film. Awards. Keep. -- Riffsyphon1024 03:31, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Keep - notable fan. KEJ 21:36, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
  • So is a vote of 7/4/2 enough to kill this, or is it still kept per indecision? -- Riffsyphon1024 20:36, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
