This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion of the article below. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page or, if the page was deleted, in the Senate Hall rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was No consensus for screwdriver; delete saw. Imperators II(Talk) 13:54, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
Screwdriver (history - links - logs - delete - protect)
This is a WP:DICT page. The item has no "distinct otherworldly quality" nor does the item's "distinct lack of an otherworldly quality create a unique incongruity." Therefore, it should be deleted. Wok142 (talk) 18:51, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

- Most handypersons today use drill attachments as screwdrivers, but that doesn't make the basic screwdriver "incongruous" in the real world. Tools have various levels of complexity, but simple concepts like levers and gears will always have a place. This is not incongruous; this is using the right tool for the right job. - I'd argue this is actually pretty incongruous. In a galaxy of hydrospanners and other things that are totally meant to be the IU version of screwdrivers, it's interesting that normal screwdrivers also exist. RattsT (talk) 19:13, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

- I've never been in favor of the technological level argument, since we know that depending on planets/species we can see a wide variety of technological diversity. Furthermore, I'd add that while screwdriver drill exist in reality, I'm sure most of us only own a few screwdriver because of practicality/price. Having a more complex tools doesn't proscribe the more simpler tool to still be used. NanoLuukeCloning facility 06:33, 22 August 2022 (UTC)

- Would it be worth turning this into a disambiguation page or redirect? SilverSunbird (talk) 21:58, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
- I'm going to say that Trash compactor decisions are only binding with respect to articles about the specific subjects (i.e., if this passes, we can't have an article on the item known as saw at this title unless we hold another TC vote to overturn this one) - but even if this passes, we can still create a disambig page (or redirect to an article on a different subject) at this title if there's need for one. Imperators II(Talk) 22:02, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
- I'd say we wouldn't want to redirect in this case since vibrosaws are as specific type of saw and I can't think of any other example where we redirect a more general term to a more specific one. Ayrehead02 (talk) 00:33, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
