Ashern Commandos (talk - history - links - logs)
The article says that "Ashern Commandos were a soldier group...", which is incorrect. In The Bacta War the only time they are mentioned, it is written in lowercase: "Iella agreed to join the group of a dozen Ashern commandos volunteering for the operation". Which means it is not a proper noun and therefore not a name of the organization. Since no such organization existed, they are simply Ashern commandos and fall under Gamorrean guard precedent. I just found out that Chiss Commando is exactly the same - by which I mean written only in lowercase in Dark Nest III: The Swarm War. I don't want to start a redundant TC, so when this one passes, I will just merge and redirect it into Chiss Expansionary Defense Force without vote per precedent. Everyone here okay with that? - But... we like redundancy. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 23:38, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- I just seriously want to point out that I don't think the whole "lower-case" or "upper-case" point is really accurate. I mean you don't see clone commando, clone trooper, etc. being capitalized. The only exception is that of ranks affiliated with the Jedi or ARC troopers. Authors, producers, etc. just don't base official units and classifications with an upper-case letter. While I see your point that unless it does use an upper-case letter, the species could just be an adjective pertaining to the specialization or career, we nevertheless can't automatically assume that they aren't. Still, I'm neutral in this thread. I just wanted to point this out. Cyfiero 06:35, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- I was pointed at the whole capitalization thing in this TC thread. That example shows that capitalization does indeed follow a pattern and is not just assigned randomly. If we keep, for example, Chiss commando, they why wouldn't we have Chiss trooper, Chiss pilot, Chiss dimlomat, Chiss bartender etc? Those TC threads are basically a way to get rid of really excessive articles. You may also check this or other similiar threads for similiar subjects. We're mostly just follow a precedent now. Clone are different case, as they have very distinct military specializations. So, while Chiss Commando == Chiss + commando, Clone commando =/= clone + commando as it is about specific GAR sub-unit made of Jango clones. MauserComlink 07:32, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know I've already checked the other threads, it's just that I chose to stay neutral and did not vote. I know what you mean, I've already thought of that counterstatement to myself. But Chiss diplomats and Chiss bartenders are in no way possibe to be a military unit designation, while Chiss trooper and Chiss commando is possible, just not likely. Perhaps it's just that I usually see commandos as actually being a unit, but I'm probably wrong on that. Cyfiero 07:55, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
