Forum:SH:Unaddressed talk page messages

Given the ever-changing nature of the Recent Changes log, talk page messages tend to be buried and forgotten by newer edits. This informal repository of talk pages serves to highlight messages that have yet to be addressed by other Wookieepedians. Feel free to add to this list if you encounter a talk page message that you cannot directly address immediately, and remove items if they have been resolved. • In the Recent changes to article talk pages section, is there a way to filter out changes made by a bot, since those will never need to be "addressed" in any meaningful sense, and the number of them only obscures those links having legitimate recent discussion?   • Jocasta isn't marked as a bot so that her edits are seen in the RC, so there isn't a way to filter it out afaik. JediMasterMacaroni^(Talk) 03:41, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

• (outdented from above) @Asithol & JediMasterMacaroni: The rationale for JocastaBot not having the bot flag is, as Master Macaroni said, that "we prefer nomination archiving to be visible in Special:RecentChanges by default". But I think part of the issue is, as that same about/documentation page says, "It performs several steps" — per action. For example, the recent successful CAN for Hibinacho juice resulted in all of the following JocastaBot edits:

That's nine separate edits, and all for a single conceptual action on JocastaBot's part. It feels like a fair question to ask, do all of those actions need to be visible in the RC list? At least some of them seem like they fall below the threshold of "nomination archiving" that needs to be visible in Recent Changes, at least from my perspective. Like (for starters, and most obviously) the update to its own rankings page, the edit to notify the nominating user (which — heh — was Master Macaroni, in this case), or the edits to the various WookieeProject pages.

Perhaps — though, let me say, I do fully appreciate the work involved in what I'm suggesting — JocastaBot's activities would be better handled by two separate bots (or separate bot instances): one without the bot flag, which handles major actions that require monitoring, and a second with the bot flag to handle the "housekeeping"?

I don't even know if this would address Asithol's concern re: the article talk page edits, TBH. Perhaps not, perhaps "Creating talk page with article nomination" is one of the edits that would be deemed necessary to remain visible in the RC list. But just in general, shunting some of the housekeeping edits over to a "true" bot would cut down on the overall RC churn significantly. Just a thought, but probably one that'd understandably be rejected for having too low a cost:benefit ratio. I'm completely willing to accept that, just wanted to get it out there anyway. • • You bring up an interesting thought, particularly for a user with only a couple edits on this wiki, but at the end of the day I think it probably would indeed be too much work for such a minor issue - and we don't like to poke Jocasta's creator, Cade Calrayn, unless it's something of great importance :P JediMasterMacaroni^(Talk) 02:31, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
