Here we go again. The time has come when we require a timeline update and probably a fancy dating template. This discussion is meant to establish the events of Update 5.10 Jedi Under Siege (Invasion of Ossus) and 6.0 Onslaught (Third Galactic War) into the Galactic calendar.
- Let's start with the already established dating of the base game: 3643 BBY (Template:TOR dates) ending in 3641 BBY.
- Following that we have this screenshot establishing the expansion 2.0 {{TOR|Rise of the Hutt Cartel}} in 3639 BBY and 4.0 {{TOR|Knights of the Fallen Empire}} prologue at 3637 BBY (47 months real time/4 years after 1.0's ending).
- KOTFE prologue to the Chapter I takes 5 years (that's carbon freezing for you) so we're now at 3632 BBY.
- Companion conversations at the end of 5.0 {{TOR|Knights of the Eternal Throne}} state that the carbon freezing events happened 6 years before making the KOTFE and KOTET storylines about a year long: heading into 3631 BBY.
- In the new expansion 6.0 {{TOR|Onslaught}}, at the end of the story, Kira Carsen states that KOTET's end happened a year before (the finishing Battle of Zakuul) which means we're now at 3630 BBY, give or take. Given this, we can claim that the events of the Third Galactic War start at 3630 BBY.
Well this is my reasoning. Let me know what your input is. Winterz (talk) 16:15, October 29, 2019 (UTC)
Discussion
- This all looks good, thanks for getting it together. I had thought we were now at 3629 BBY because the old dating ssystem assumed months passed between KOTFE's base content and the later chapters, putting the end at 3631 BBY and KOTET at 3630 BBY, but this makes more sense. - I have been meaning to ask where people have been getting the 3643 BBY indication from. Looking at the opening pages of Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia, that book states we begin in 3640 BBY. Granted, a couple pages later it specifies that year as the renewed war starting, but it feels a bit contradictory. I'm assuming people have been building the timeline backwards from a tweet by Drew Karpyshyn saying that The Old Republic: Annihilation takes place in 3640 BBY, though his tweet doesn't help matters when he says Theron Shan is 30 in that book, when he's at best 26. So I guess what the Encyclopedia means to say is that SWTOR's vanilla endgame is in 3640 BBY? Wouldn't be right either, if the Battle of Ilum is supposed to take place the same year as all the class stories' 3rd chapter. --BTD (talk) 12:30, January 26, 2020 (UTC)
- I believe that stemmed from an old comment on swtor.com from one of the developers that said the game took place "a decade" after the Treaty of Coruscant. Imperators II(Talk) 20:36, January 26, 2020 (UTC)
- See here: Template:TOR dates. Winterz (talk) 20:47, January 26, 2020 (UTC)
- I've seen that template, but it doesn't exactly state what information there is to indicate the events taking place during these years. I'd like to actually see some form of quote. --BTD (talk) 18:24, January 28, 2020 (UTC)
- I don't have that "a decade after" comment right now but another way to get there is with the companions' age. Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia establishes Tharan Cedrax's birth year in 3672 BBY whilst TOR's HoloNet puts his age at 29 in-game, setting the Jedi Consular's Chapter I in 3643 BBY. - New info [1]. We were all way out XD DarthReave (talk) 21:41, June 15, 2020 (UTC)
- We will have to check each in-universe year article and make edits per [2], but we should not rush in unprepared. --Rakhsh (talk) 21:56, June 15, 2020 (UTC)
- Charles Boyd is getting feedback from players regarding the accuracy of his calculations. It seems the caution in my previous post has merit. --Rakhsh (talk) 22:05, June 15, 2020 (UTC)
- Aye, might be worth waiting for a short while in case he makes corrections/adjustments. But, it's good to know 1 RL year = 1 in-game year is back on, post KOTFE. It should make it much easier to pin events to the right dates going forwards. DarthReave (talk) 22:07, June 15, 2020 (UTC)
- Yup, the post as it says "is a rough draft for a more official release for the future, so stuff might change or get a bit more detail later." and the post end with "let me know if y'all find any specific callouts for years that I'm missing, particularly around that end of class stories/Battle of Ilum timeframe." We shouldn't rush with changing any years yet.--DarthRuiz30 (talk) 22:07, June 15, 2020 (UTC)
- Interestingly, he says "Class stories begin in 10 ATC. Given the Ilum date from the encyclopedia combined with the generally acknowledged "class stories collectively occur over the course of about 3 years", I'm going to say that SWTOR begins near the end of 10 ATC, and that the battle of Ilum occurs near the end of 13 ATC." With the concrete statement that class stories begin in 10 ATC, what does everyone think about using that to finally update Template:TOR dates to include all classes, not just three of the Republic ones? - I would wait until further clarification of the post, there's no rush to change information. I've been working on the dates too for a while, so I don't think we should rush after one post that its left open for any corrections.--DarthRuiz30 (talk) 23:48, June 16, 2020 (UTC)

- Another post from Boyd that I believe is relevant [3]. Offers some clarification/additional thoughts. DarthReave (talk) 00:04, June 17, 2020 (UTC)
- Seems we have our dating system :) [4] DarthReave (talk) 20:53, June 22, 2020 (UTC)
After reviewing some of the information plus the confirmation that the timeline from the SWTOR forums is the one going to be used, I compiled all the dates here, this will be a big change since several articles will need to be reviewed. Before starting any changes, please take a look to the dates and feel free to let me know if there's any mistake. Especially with KOTFE chapters 2-8 since they weren't mentioned in the timeline.--DarthRuiz30 (talk) 08:46, June 24, 2020 (UTC)
